Vodafone Spain is one of the leading telecommunications operators globally, with thousands of critical processes that underpin the daily operation of customers, network, business, and internal services. The company manages a high volume of information across teams, applications, and departments, where agility and precision are essential to guarantee operational continuity and service quality.
Track record and processes already automated
At Vodafone Spain, the area currently responsible for this function is the Design and Engineering / Digitalisation and Processes department. The RPA automation journey began 9 years ago across various functional areas, starting with the automation of the Remedy process (ticket management). The strong results achieved drove the expansion of the programme to other processes and business areas, making Network Engineering, Network Operations, and Procurement the main beneficiaries due to their high operational workload. As a result of this journey, Vodafone Spain today has a set of high-impact automations, notable among them the Affected Customers Process, Purchase Order Creation in their ERM, Query Generation in Business Objects, Ticket Creation in SMART, and Document Upload/Download in JIRA, along with BAU updates of physical and logical Inventory. Together, these have helped optimise critical operations and free up resources for higher-value activities.
Multiple technologies and the need for centralization
Throughout this evolution, and as a consequence of processes inherited following various consolidations, Vodafone Spain ended up operating with several RPA solutions, primarily UiPath and Fortra Automate. This technological diversity generated operational and financial inefficiencies. In the current corporate context, with a strong focus on automation and cost savings, the company took a strategic decision: to consolidate its entire automation strategy onto a single platform, choosing Fortra Automate for its balance of capabilities, ease of adoption, and excellent value for money.
Standardisation on Automate has opened a new phase of growth in which Vodafone Spain is increasing the number of processes that are candidates for automation. To support this, they have added new agents, which allow them to extend the RPA solutions from the TECH groups into new organisational verticals. This unified approach enables progress toward a more homogeneous, efficient, and scalable operating model.
A sustained partnership over time and looking to the future
Both Fortra and Software Greenhouse have supported Vodafone Spain throughout these years, providing managed services for platform administration, alongside new developments and enhancements that have helped maintain the stability of the environment and ensure an evolution aligned with the real needs of the business. Today, technology consolidation on Automate positions Vodafone Spain at an ideal point to continue expanding its automation strategy, with a solid foundation and an ecosystem ready to scale to new departments, processes, and use cases. Fortra and Software Greenhouse will continue to support this journey, contributing vision, support, and experience to build an increasingly agile, intelligent, and sustainable operating model.
